Talks with Myrt

The Van Gogh Experience Part 1 W/ Dean Harper

Episode Summary

In the Artists Residence space at the Van Gogh Exhibit, I hosted a series of talks with some of the amazing artists from the Yellow House Initiative. Van Gogh was one that often used his art to find purpose in his life, or to try and reconcile some of the tragic things that were taking place in it. Like Van Gogh, many of the artists here including myself use art to decipher our lives, our feelings, thoughts, and other things going on in the world that matter to us. I held conversations with the Artist about how their art has helped them overcome, or cope with depression and trauma. We spoke on how they relied on art to get them through dark times and how art has helped them heal. These talks were live open to the public to attend.

Episode Notes

Imagine being raised with a religious background and your father being a pastor, then everything that you are becoming doesn’t align with that back ground. This is what Artist Dean Harper has experienced growing up and coming into himself. He speaks on childhood abuse and coming into his sexuality. We were speaking on how some times to get to a place of peace, you have to cut certain things and people off that doesn’t match the frequency that you are trying to reach. He and Myrt spoke on how having Art with you and something to document what you’re feeling is is a necessity at times. It was a full conversation with a lot of insight. Tune in!
